Marilyn Monroe

Palm Springs, CA

In 1949, Marilyn Monroe was “discovered” at Charlie Farrell's Racquet Club in Palm Springs by Johnny Hyde from the William Morris Agency. After spotting her having photos taken by the poolside, he signed Marilyn to a contract and she soon became a legend.

She frequented the Mira Loma Hotel (currently the Palm Springs Rendezvous), and would stay in the room that is known today as the Pretty in Pink, as did many other celebrities of the era including Veronica Lake and Gloria Swanson.

Her former home in Palm Springs is located at 1326 Rose Avenue. And her star on the Palm Springs Walk of Stars can be found on 101 S. Palm Canyon Dr. (Tahquitz Canyon Way) in Palm Springs.

In 2011, her statue was erected by sculptor Seward Johnson; and from 2012 thru 2014, this towering work of art was previously located two blocks from the Palm Springs Art Museum on the corner of Palm Canyon Dr . and Tahquitz. The statue will now be installed on Museum Way, directly in front of the Palm Springs Art Museum.
